The pub`s wood burning stove has become a focal point. It`s said that fire and water have a soothing effect on people`s moods. And it certainly seems to be true. A warm fire has a way of drawing people near and making them say "Ah,". It makes the delicious food seem to taste better, and the drinks and conversations shared around the fire with old friends seem to take on a more enjoyable air. The locally made "Pure Light" tiles on the wall around the stove are made of recycled glass, and have recently recieved the 'Eco-mark' seal. The flooring panels were recycled from the media center for the 2008 Toyako Environmental Summit where leaders of over 20 nations met. And everyone worked together to design and burn the sign that hangs over the door.

2008年12月にオープンしたルスツリゾートのすぐ隣にある居酒屋。ヨーロッパ各地を回り、腕を磨いたシェフは留寿都で既に有名人！いつもトレードマークのバンダナをするため、外国人のお客様に、「パイレェトマン（海賊人）」と名づけられ、そのままお店の名前になりました。

Latest News from Izakaya Pirateman

　We all know a Pirate`s life is not easy. There are decks to swab, timbers to shiver, and booty waiting to be plundered. And there never seems to be enough time to it all. Izakaiya Pirateman`s beloved Captain and chief cook, Kurashina-san, has decided to take the season off to relax and once more enjoy the feel of the deck under his feet and the sea spray on his face. In other words....he`ll be chasing "booty" all over the beaches, and sailing the Spanish Main until spring.

　But never fear! Izakaiya Pirateman won`t leave you marooned without an amazing chef to feed you after a long day on the ski slopes. The Admiralty has found another buccaneer, by the name of Takada-san, to take over the kitchen....er, the galley. And he`s as true a pirate as ever sailed the seven seas. (He`s quite a cook too.)

　We hope you`ll all join us around the fire again this year to celebrate "Peach Time" and to enjoy the wonderful food and wines Pirateman is becoming known for......`cause if you don`t, you may end up walking the plank!

The origin of the name "Pirateman"

　In December of 2008 we opened an Izakaya, or Japanese-style pub, next to Rusutsu Resort. Our Chef, who learned his craft traveling around Europe, is a Rusutsu celebrity. Because of the trademark bandana he always wears, foreign guests gave him the nickname "Pirateman", and we gave the resturaunt that name in his honor.

＊お店造りのこだわり

「自然を感じることのできる建物にしたい！！」「この大自然を生かしたお店造りがしたい！！」この思いを一番に、スタッフ全員と、大工さんの力を借りながら、シンプルで温かみのある建物にしました。まず、カラマツの木板を焦がし、ブラシで擦り、味わいのある外壁にしました。内装もペンキ塗りや照明を皆で力合わせて完成させました。これからも少しずつ色んなものを造り、いつまでもお客様に喜ばれるようなお店造りを頑張ります。

趣のある薪ストーブはお店のもう一つのポイントにもなっています。人間は「火（ひ）」と「水（みず）」を見るのは飽きが来ないとよく聞きます。まさにそうです！火には人を引き付ける力があり、そこにあるだけで「ほっ。」とします。薪ストーブがあると、おいしいごはんもさらにおいしくなり、おいしいお酒で心地よい気分になり、大切な仲間とのゆっくりした会話が流れます薪ストーブの周りに張られているのは「ピュアライト」という最近エコマークをもらった使用済み蛍光管でできたタイルのことです。床に使われたのは洞爺湖サミットのメディアセンターの再利用板。その上に各国の代表者が歩いたということを考えるとどこか重みを感じます。看板も皆の力を合わせてコテで焼きました。

About Building The Restaurant

"We want a building that feels at home in the natural suroundings!!" "We want a place that blends in with the beautiful nature that people come here to enjoy." With these thoughts foremost in mind, all the staff and carpenters set out together to remodel an old farmhouse into a warm and welcoming space. First, one board at a time, we burned and burnished each of the timbers on the building`s exterior. Then everyone worked together painting and polishing the interior. We`re still making changes to the interior here and there, and will continue doing so to make it a place all of our customers can enjoy.
